Skye Rocks.

I had the most amazing 3 days in Skye recently. I have only ever been to Skye twice before, a brief and very misty visit in 2003 and in a year I can't remember to run a half marathon. So all in all had not really seen an awful lot of this very beautiful island.

My companion for the weekend was very knowledgeable about the area and loves it so much I think this was visit 7 this year alone.

I was extremely thrilled to be getting away from the city for a few days and spending time walking and scrambling in the hills. I was not disappointed. The weather was incredible, mostly, and we packed in an amazing amount of walking in a short space of time.

I am not going to waste words trying to describe the places we visited, will leave that to the photos.

 Heading up towards the ridge.

Spot the deer.

Onwards and upwards.

Always remember to stop and look back.

Blue skies. Yeah.

Looking towards the Bastier tooth.

Sunset at Glenbrittle.

I've been up there!

Bliss.

So there you go, just a taster of one of the best weekends I have had in a long time. Hopefully it won't be so long till my next return visit.

Head Space.

Not got many words this week, so going to share a poem I wrote a few years ago. It kind of sums me up this week. I find it strange how some things in life just don't change no matter how hard you try to make it different.

Head Space

Cloaked and brooding it waits.
Slowly it seeps through breaking down the barriers.
Why it comes I do not know, those nagging doubts and insecurities escalating into something unknown.
The drip feed soon becomes a flood and thoughts and reason spiral out of control.
Leaving only the darkness for comfort.

Weather blur.

Unimaginative.

According to Oscar Wilde; "Conversation about the weather is the last refuge of the unimaginative."

If that is true it does not say much about us as a Nation, but I fear it is definitely true of me this weekend, not that I had much conversation about it but it certainly rendered me unimaginative.

Yes it is June.

Summer lovin!

El Scorchio

If you live in Scotland and indeed the UK, it could not have escaped your attention that the weather has been very, very hot over the last week. Unprecedented blue skies and temperatures in the high 20˚C's.

Quite unbelievable considering the previous week I was dodging hail stones and snow showers. No acclimatising to this weeks hot weather at all. It seems to only be hot or cold, no mild temps at all. It has been fabulous to see the plants and trees just flourish after all last months rain. The country side is beautifully green and yellow with small flourishes of purple. Gorgeous.

Lazy Daisy Shoes.

As I spend much of the week by myself, thoughts creep into my mind about life, love and the universe. A couple of this weeks thoughts include;

1) The stupidity of the Scottish Government if they really think that raising the minimum price of alcohol will in any way shape or form stop the Scottish people from being a nation of alcoholics and drunkards. I don't know how they can spout facts and figures of how many lives will be saved and how much money the NHS will save by this price hike at the lower end of booze buying sales. Call me a cynic if you like but I don't think that this move will make one jot of a difference to our health. If I know my Nation then I think people will beg, borrow, steal and possibly even give up food before they give up their booze. They have already taken away our happy hours and moved the alcohol away from the front of super markets, has that made any difference to the binge drinking and fights? I doubt it, because the one thing the Government can't control is people stupidity.

North Berwick

2) On a less political note I have been bemused as to why anyone would buy a Nissan Cube. I have seen 2 this week and think that it is one of the ugliest cars that I have ever seen. It looks like a very young child designed it with their eyes shut. I think even Postman Pat would find it hard to find any aesthetic value in this cubic wonder.

St Andrews.

Lets hope the good weather continues for a while. It has been so wonderful to get out and about on Dolly and not get frost bite on my extremities.

April? Yeah right!

Calendar says it's April.

I think we were all lulled into a false sense of Spring and Summer with that one gorgeous week of warm sunny weather at the end of March. So the snow, hail, wind, rain and cold temps were a bit of a shock this week.  My flat is now especially cold, as I switched my heating off thinking Summer was here and I'll be damned if I am putting it back on.

Weather not so Aprilish.

Anstruther harbour.

Snow on the Pentlands.

Been a long week at work, driven many miles and some very long days, but all good really. Not so grumpy this week, thankfully, and I have a 3 day weekend. So I think I will leave it at that for this post.

Running stripes.

Another beautiful Sunday morning today. Blue skies, mild temps and not too much wind. More good running weather. We ran a route going from Bonaly over to Glencourse then back to Harlaw and down Torphin hill. Beth's GPS informed us that it was 7.89 miles, although I added approx 4 extra miles as I ran from my house rather than drive to our meeting point and back.

It took me roughly 2 hours, but it was fairly tough going at some points as the ground was extremely water logged and slippy with mud. There was a fair amount of up hill too! The old legs were starting to get a bit stiff by the time I got home, but as ever it felt good for my mind and soul.

View from top of Bonaly.

I am still trying to keep up my photo a day project, so decided to play a little with my camera. Not much came out the way I had hoped, but at least I tried. Hopefully get better with more practice. Here are a couple of the not so terrible ones.

Windy Weather.

Anyone in Scotland today would have noticed a bit of a breeze blowing. I missed most of it being inside all day, but was glad to get home to see that my house was still in one piece. Many people and places have not been so fortunate.

Granton harbour did look quite spectacular with the waves crashing over the wall this morning.

Stay safe.
